About The Neighborhood Partnership Network

LSU-NPN Neighborhood Association Survey

From 2009-2011, Neighborhoods Partnership Network partnered with the LSU Department of Sociology to survey neighborhood associations in order to establish participation benchmarks, as well as identify the most effective strategies for community revitalization.

The survey was completed by 67 of our 107 member organizations, spanning 48 neighborhood associations, 8 Community Development Corporations, 5 neighborhood disaster recovery centers, and 4 neighborhood business associations.
Highlights from the survey findings include:
• The most effective blight reduction is a result of organizational commitment and cooperation with other neighborhood associations.
• Areas with older neighborhood associations, and/or organizations with active business committees, and/or organizations that mobilized people, most effectively all saw better repopulation and less blight.
• The age of an organization and its level of cooperative orientation are key.
