Mission:

A historic community of Old Carrollton, our neighborhood was once one of New Orleans most coveted cultural treasures. In its heyday, its population consisted of pensioners, mostly retired from the old rail line and Port of New Orleans, earning us the name, Pensiontown.

Devastated by mass abandonment and neglect since the Depression, our neighborhood has sustained itself as a culturally diverse community of mostly the descendants of those who built the houses that (many of which) still exist today. In some ways, Katrina only made a bad situation worse. As you may have already learned, most of those descendant families didn’t have homeowner’s insurance, and those who did, with highly inflated construction costs and predatory contractors and lenders, still cannot complete the work they started. And yes, many New Orleanians, (not just in our neighborhood) are still today, three years later, negatively affected by the failures of our local, state, and federal administration, FEMA, insurance companies, and mortgage companies.

Through it all, we are still here, and thanks to organizations like NPN and our neighbor organizations, we are better equipped, more informed, and more energized than ever.

For those New Orleanians who have come back home, and those who are still trying, let us know how we can help. For those Non-New Orleanians who have visited our City after Katrina, special thanks to you, I hope you were able to visit Carrollton (if not, I hope you see fit to do so when you come back). And finally, for those of you who have not yet become a part of our movement to Bring Back New Orleans, pass by for some mirliton, stuffed bell peppers, red beans, crawfish, beignets, étouffé, hot sausage, and gumbo, (not necessarily in that order).

Volunteers and donations are always welcomed, so please feel free to inquire.
