Mission:

VALUES:
CCRA values the culture and diversity of Central City neighborhoods that are powerful and economically vibrant.

VISION:
We envision a Central City where the quality of life for everyone is defined by high quality schools, full employment, an abundance of business and entrepreneurial opportunities, and a healthy and safe environment.

MISSION:
The Central City Renaissance Alliance honors and supports the collective voice and collaborative strength of Central City residents as we create neighborhoods that are powerful and economically vibrant. We are committed to the revitalization and transformation of Central City by employing community education, community economic development, leadership development and advocacy.

HISTORY:
The CCRA and the Central City Community Vision were created through a series of community planning meetings and charettes over 18 months, 2003-04. On August 29, 2005, one month before the scheduled September kick-off of the first stage of implementation of the Central City Plan, Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans. Most of Central City’s 19,000 residents were forced from the neighborhood for many months as the City dealt with unprecedented challenges stemming from catastrophic levee failures. Immediately after Katrina, the community focused on addressing pressing needs while continuing to advance the seven themes articulated in the 2004 Central City Community Vision and outlined in the 2007 UNOP plan.

NOW:
Throughout the recovery, CCRA has participated in each planning process, upholding the 2004 Vision. Although 10,000 of Central City’s residents remain displaced, the Central City community has achieved many notable accomplishments: Created a Community Benefits Coalition to negotiate with developers; Held meetings with school board officials to advocate for opening schools in Central City; Communicated needs and priorities related to zoning and property rights; Rallied political support for advancing plans and funding for the Louisiana Civil Rights Museum to be located in Central City; Ashe Cultural Arts Center and Cafe Reconcile both expanded their physical presence in Central City; Central City Renaissance Alliance, LANO and Good Works Network established offices on historic O. C. Haley Boulevard.

7 COMMUNITY THEMES:
▪Strengthening Community Connections
▪Telling the Community Story
▪Quality Housing
▪Neighborhood Beautification
▪Employment, Business Development and Wealth Building
▪Lifelong Learning
▪Health and Safety
