LANO New Orleans would like to announce to its Orleans Parish members that the Office of Recovery and Development Administration (ORDA) has opened its 2009 Nonprofit Registry application process. Your organization must be accepted and part of the Nonprofit Registry to be eligible for a wide range of federal grant funds given out by ORDA.
Available Grants
The City of New Orleans is entering the fourth year of its 2006-2010 Consolidated Plan (CP). The CP is a five-year housing and community development plan which serves as the planning and application process for the following four federal formula grants awarded to the City by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD):
-Community Development Block Grant (CDBG): To prioritize a number of public service needs including Youth Enhancement, Literacy/Education, Child Care, Senior Services, and Housing Counseling.
-HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME): To improve the existing housing stock and increase the supply of decent, affordable housing units for low-income households.
-Emergency Shelter Grant Program (ESG/SESG): To provide a foundation for homeless people to begin moving to independent living by 1) improving the quality of emergency homeless shelters, and 2) providing homeless prevention activities such as rent, mortgage, and utility assistance.
-Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA): To provide resources to meet the housing and related needs, such as short-term rent and utility payments, of low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families.
Nonprofit Registry
If you are interested in applying for one of the above grants, you must be accepted onto the Nonprofit Registry first. This registry is targeted towards tax-exempt nonprofits that implement programs and/or projects addressing priority housing, community development, and continuum of care needs. The purpose of the registry is to ensure that applicants meet minimum eligibility requirements. Acceptance onto the registry does not guarantee you will receive grant funding.
Nonprofit Registry Application
For more information about these federal grants or if you could like a copy of the 2009 Nonprofit Registry application, please email Elisabeth Gehl at or Jeanette Thomas at . Please keep in mind the registry submission due date is Friday, December 5, 2008 at 3 PM; however the suggested due date is October 31, 2008.
