MISSION
LFCL is a demand-driven service agriculture organization providing access to farmland, resources, education and training so members can grow/eat healthy food in urban sustainable farms, create entrepreneurship and address the socioeconomic issues of the Latino community in Louisiana.
THE FARMERS INCUBATOR PROJECT
The Farmers Incubator Project is our venue to build capacity for a new generation of farmers and the development of micro agro enterprises by offering technical assistance, hand-on training and education in Spanish along with a commercial kitchen to low-income Latino families and beginning farmers. The Farmers Incubator Project focus on sustainable ways to produce food and sustainable ways to provide economic opportunities for Louisiana growing Latino population.
PROGRAMS
The Project is divided in seven programs: 1) Community Gardens, 2) Poultry Production, 3) Cow-Share Club, 4) Cheesemaking Workshops, 5) Hydroponics, 6)Farmers Markets and 7) Small-scale farming. All programs offers hand-on training and education on sustainable ways to grow healthy food in urban setting.
PROGRAM’S BENEFITS
The Farmers Incubator Project improves the health, welfare and income of the Latino community in Louisiana in many ways including by helping families to grow their own herbs and vegetables; by replacing imported products with locally grown produce; and by producing food that is local, affordable, fresh and easily available. This Project educates the community; helps the environment; increases the quality, access and diversification of fresh food; promotes community development, empowerment and leadership; and, overall, it fosters cultural and social justice for all.
