Katrina, a catastrophic natural and man-made event, was a galvanizing moment in the city’s history when our residents, workers, businesses and institutions proved they have the will and determination to take charge of the city’s destiny and make sure we protect this place we called home.
Empowered neighborhood leaders and residents throughout the city now know they can, in fact, change the destiny of not only their neighborhoods, but the entire city. We have also come to realize the job has only just begun. Much of the city has been brought back, or should one say forward. We have all also become more aware of what kind of city we can and should be, and what it will take to shape that city.
