P.3 Panel Discussion: Slavery, The Prison Industrial Complex

On Tuesday, November 4, Xavier University will host: Slavery, The Prison Industrial Complex, moderated by William P. Quigley, Law Professor and Director of the Law Clinic and the Gillis Long Poverty Law Center at Loyola University, New Orleans. This panel and round-table discussion will examine the failed systematic machinery of mass imprisonment and the combined efforts under way to abolish it. The panel will be led by a variety of individuals, including prominent political activists, former prisoners, as well as P.3 artists Keith Calhoun and Chandra McCormick who have documented the Angola Prison and now have work on display at the Ogden for P.3. These participants will come together to both inform the public and discuss strategies for change while reminding us of the crucial, invigorating and ever-present affinity between activism and art. This unique event is made possible by the Program in African American and Diaspora Studies at Xavier University and will be held from 6 – 8 PM in Xavier’s Qatar Auditorium, Room 112A & B (1 Drexel Drive).
